London by Ria Currie

« I’ve sang for the heavy weight funk band ‘Speedometer’ for a good few years now, and appeared on all 6 of their albums! (which are signed to ‘freestyle records)
….AND of course , I’ve been singing on lots of OTHER projects along the way and before (too many to mention here) ….

I have some great gigs coming up this year and next … And I’m always up for any session/recording/performing ‘stuff’ that comes my way!!!!

What do you like in London ?
The whole hustle and bustle of it.. busy and cosmopolitan..Also the history of it .. I like that I can get to london in 30 mins on the train too..

Your best records shops in London ?
Jazzman records – Gerald shorts mail order service.. lots of people swear by him..

Your best clubs in London ?
I have 2 !.. ‘The Jazzcafe’ in Camden because thats my favourite place to perform in london and when you go to watch a band it’s very intimate as it’s quite small. And the 2nd place has to be ‘Ronnie Scott’s’ in Soho.. You feel like you’ve stepped back in time and it always feels special to be there.. I’ve yet to perform there..but would absolutely love to.

Your best parties in London ?
Usually dancing to the DJ’s after the acts at the Jazzcafe… Havn’t been there for a little while though so , I’d better re-check that one!! Ha Ha

Your best bar/pub in London ?
There is a great bar in a hotel near Oxford Street called the ‘Courthouse’ hotel.. it still has the holding cells from many many years ago and you can sit in them to drink etc .. bit like a creepy booth!!

Your best restaurants in London ?
‘Asia de Cuba’ which is situated in the ‘St Martin’s lane Hotel’ is lovely.. can be alittle on the expensive side though… I stumbled across a great restaurant in Marylebone High street called ‘Fishworks’… You actually had to walk through a Fishmongers to get to the restaurant out the back… It was such lovely food…. and you don’t feel like you have been robbed after!!

Your best hotels in London ?
I really like the ‘Marylebone Hotel’… it’s really quirky and modern but very relaxed too.. I like the lounge room with all the zebra print in..

Some others best places/spots in London ?
Has to be Soho as it’s always so alive.. and Oxford street for shopping!

THE LAST TIME I WAS IN LONDON- Was performing at ‘The Pigalle club’ in Piccadilli .. for the Launch of the new ‘SPEEDOMETER’ Album ‘THE SHAKEDOWN’ on Freestyle Records.
